ABOUT US

Our Super-Capacitors are a product of years of working towards a solution for Portable Power.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Our Super Capacitors are a product of years of working towards a solution for Portable Power. The company is owned and operated by Joe Iacono. Joe has a 20-year background in the Power Generation industry and is an avid offshore fisherman. Around 5 years ago, while looking for a safe way to power a trolling motor and not give up storage space to permanently mounted batteries the Portable Power Concepts idea was started. We worked with multiple batteries while looking for this solution. One of our biggest concerns was “How do we control the heat and avoid thermal runaway?” This is when we shifted to a Graphene Supercapacitor. Fisherman ranging from recreational to charter boat captains are using our portable power pack to power their equipment.

WHAT PROBLEMS Portable Power Concepts Solves

Super Capacitors store energy in an electric field, rather than in a chemical reaction, like batteries. This allows them to charge and discharge much faster than batteries. They can also survive more than a million charge and discharge cycles, offering much longer lifecycles. Super Capacitors have very little internal resistance (down to 0.12 m2), allowing them to work at close to 100% efficiency. They are also significantly lighter than batteries and generally don't contain harmful chemicals or toxic metals,

FAQs

What is Graphene?

The simplest way to describe graphene is that it is a single, thin layer of graphite arranged in a lattice. It is highly conductive and strong.

What is the benefit to using a Supercapacitor?

Supercapacitors are a stable and reliable energy storage that are not affected by heat, or the constant demand of charge and discharging associated with lead acid and lithium batteries.

How long will these Supercapacitors last?

These supercapacitors are rated to last for 1,000,000 charges and discharges. This is 25 operating years.

What is the warranty on these units?

Our Supercapacitors come with a 2/10-year warranty. They have a 2-year bumper to bumper warranty (besides physical abuse). Then follows an 8-year prorated schedule. For 10 total years of warranty. There is also a 10-year warranty on the internal cells of the Supercapacitor from the manufacture.

Do Supercapacitors have a potential for thermal runaway?

There is no potential for thermal runaway due to the entirely different construction of a capacitors and unstable chemicals are not used in its’ construction.

Does this Supercapacitor replace the three 12 Volt Batteries in series?

Yes, this is a singular 36-volt system.

Do I have to give up storage space on my boat to permanently mount this unit?

You will not have to permanently give up storage space on your boat. This is a portable unit and is designed to come off your boat when you take the trolling motor off.

Is this unit waterproof?

When cutting and mounting the exterior components to the case, we took away the IP67 rating. The components are gasketed from the interior and caulked from the exterior. This case is designed for the marine environment. We just don’t recommend submerging, dropping, or storing directly in water.

How heavy is the unit?

The unit’s weight is less than 50 lbs. The case has multiple handles on it to aid in moving the unit around the boat or other applications. It also has a retractable handle and attached wheels to aid in portability.
